Job Description

This position will report directly to the R&D Manager. The R&D Technician will be responsible for maintaining safety, sanitation and GMPs in the Pilot Plant, assisting the Pilot Plant with production and processing, staging and batching raw materials, dryer operations, sieving and packaging products. This person would also perform shelf life study of R&D samples.ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Actively contributes to and maintains safety, sanitation and GMPs in Pilot PlantFull compliance on internal policy regarding safety and confidentialityAssists Pilot Plant Operator with production in pilot plant, including staging and batching of raw materials, pilot dryer operation, sieving and packaging of finished productcapability to work well with the team and work well independently with minimal supervisionAssists with weighing out taste tests and finished product applicationsParticipates in the development of new productsContributes to improving current products by establishing and carrying out experimental protocols: planning, implementation, experimental tests, physico-chemical and sensory analyzesIdentifies and suggests improvements in methods, plans projects of limited duration and scope, troubleshoots when erroneous or unexpected results occurResponsible for producing experimental results in a timely fashion utilizing a variety of techniques, and effectively documenting findings and communicating resultsEnsure that all product performance evaluations are significant to the customer applicationDeliver reports and other documents necessary to build the R & D expertise database and in compliance with our quality systemPerforms shelf life study of R & D samplesBasic interpretation and data analysis of resultsAid in managing supplies and material inventorySelf-starter yet take orders as directedMaintain a clean working area and assist with sanitation and maintenance of R&D labPre-formulation of new product, customer recipe modifies or reverse engineered to include reviewing product, preliminary testing, ingredients identifiedRecipe Formulation will include ordering raw materials for formulations, determine size of batch, process and equipment usedDocument revision to recipe, record cook time and temp, record average fill weight, cool samples in water bathPerforms special projects assigned by managerNote: Requires candidate to work overtime and additional/change of shift.REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION....Competency in mathematics, technical processing and lab equipment operationsMethodical work ethic and proficiency in procedural workGood communication and interpersonal expertiseMulti-tasking and accurate labeling practices are requiredpractice in test kitchen environment is a plusMust have demonstrated abilities in written and oral communication with excellent spelling and accuracyRequires candidate to execute general office tasks - use computers; working expertise of Microsoft Office products and to calculate mathematically -- all in a fast paced environment Candidate is also required to prioritize, follow-through on multiple tasks and work in a safe, efficient manner; abiding by all safety related policies and proceduresUnderstands organization goals, production goals and key performance measures. Understands how the position can affect these goals and measures.Understands and complies with attendance policy, attends work consistently and on-time.expertiseable and proficient in basic word processing and spreadsheet software use, and data entry. While performing the tasks of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, observe, inspect, estimate and assess. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold.
