The Ophthalmology service at Cork University Hospital (CUH) provides Eye Casualty and Out Patient services for Cork and Kerry on a multidisciplinary team basis.

Purpose of the Post:
To provide Orthoptic services for patients including investigation and management of Ocular Motility Disorders, Visual Field Testing, Ultrasonography, Ocular Biometry, Imaging (Optical Coherence Tomography) Fundoscopy Photo, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography(FFA) within Cork University Hospital.
The Senior Clinical Orthoptist will work closely with the Ophthalmic Consultants to ensure that the Orthoptic Department delivers a high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner.
The Senior Clinical Orthoptist will assess, diagnose, plan the management and supervise treatment of Orthoptic patients. To asses patients of all ages, referred from Consultant Ophthalmologists, Eye Casualty, other internal departments/services within CUH, CUH Group or from other external institutions/agencies.
Candidates must at the time of application have:
   » Excellent communication expertise both written and verbal.
   » A valid work permit to work within Ireland
   » Be available to attend for interview within 2 weeks with a view to an immediate start.
Eligibility Criteria:
Professional Qualifications & practice
(a) Eligible, candidates will be those who on the closing date for the competitionpossess:
i. BSc (Hons) Orthoptics from Glasgow Caledonian University
ii. BSc (Hons) Orthoptics from the University of Liverpool
iii BMed Sci (Hons) Orthoptics from the University of Sheffield
iv. A validated qualification equivalent to (i) or (ii) or (iii) above.
v. be registered as an Orthoptist with the Health & Care Professions Council, UK (HCPC).
(b)Candidates must have 3 years full-time post qualification clinical practice.
(c)Candidates must have the requisite expertise and capability (including a high standard of suitcapability and management capability) for the proper discharge of the tasks of the office.
