The Prudential Global Investment Management (PGIM) group currently have an opening for a Cognos Developer preferably with an Investments/Financial background.
Job responsibilities:
   » Analyze and validate computer program specifications, submitting questions or requests for program logic changes in writing.
   » Independently design and create program code that is structured, easily maintained, and conforms to department standards.
   » Research user questions on program processing logic and calculations.
   » Prepare test data for trial runs; perform thorough program and application testing.
   » Maintain all compile jobs, code modules, and screens required to test programs and document requirements to move to production.
   » Develop and maintain all documentation pertaining to a programming project.
   » Provide clearly written application user guides for end users or system administrators.
   » Communicate to the Sr. VP-Systems the status of all their projects to ensure projects are implemented correctly and in a timely manner.
   » Comply with the department procedures manual, as well as, make suggestions for new standards and procedures.
   » Evaluate the scope and impact of a programming change or enhancement on the entire system.
   » practice in Project management of Cognos projects.
   » Maintaining Cognos reports and work on enhancements to existing reports or creating new reports located on business needs
   » Supporting team and end-users as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) through troubleshooting, recommending solutions and identifying opportunities to deal with business problems through BI
   » Collaborating with the business on identifying the best way to present the data
practice, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND expertise:
Technical Knowledge and expertise:
The ideal candidate should be educated to degree level and have practice and expert knowledge of:
   » At least 3 - 5 years of Business Intelligence and Reporting practice
   » At least 3 years' practice with Cognos and / or exposure to Tableau
   » Strong knowledge of best practices for dashboards and visualizations is required
   » practiced with administrating and maintaining Cognos 10
   » practiced with creating relational models using Cognos Framework Manager
   » Dashboard creation using Cognos Business Insight
   » Strong SQL development expertise- writing complex queries and stored procedures- SQL
   » practiced with creating reports using Report Studio
   » Create and maintain Cognos specifications and process documentation to produce the required reporting and analytic deliverables
   » Knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) development from various business data repositories
   » Strong technical knowledge of business intelligence tools and demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting expertise are required
   » Strong analytical expertise, including a thorough knowledge of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application requirements
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise. Able to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members, and management along a wide spectrum of technical abilities
Additional Competencies:
   » Proven leadership abilities expertise and an excellent track record of deliverables
   » Strong debugging
   » The capability to work independently and within a team
   » Investments business knowledge or practice is an advantage
   » Tableau practice an advantage
   » Knowledge of object oriented programming languages, including C#, .NET 4.0+, SQL
   » Knowledge of database systems including Oracle and Sql Server. Knowledge of Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Integrations Servers a plus.
   » Strong analytical expertise, including a thorough knowledge of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application requirements.
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise. Able to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members, and management- along a wide spectrum of technical abilities
   » capability to develop effective internal/external working relationships with both business units and vendors
   » practice with Application Lifecycle Management techniques and concepts, specifically Team Foundation Server
   » practice planning and implementing the following technologies a plus: Test Driven Development, Entity Framework, MVC, ASP.Net Webforms
   » practice planning and implementing the following vendor solutions a plus: ETL, Messaging, Data Warehouse/Data Mart, BI, Sharepoint
   » significant work practice in the Investments/Financial industry (FinTech) would be a distinct advantage.
   » LOMA 357 Investments and/or CFA certification would also be an advantage.*Grade is dependent on practice and current position held
