Job Description

Matheson , a leading manufacturer, processor, retail sales and distributor of welding gases and supplies has the following opportunity available at our Portland, OR facility.

Counter Sales Representative


Provide support to both internal and external customers, as well as assist outside sales in quotation and order administration. Work Design: works under general supervision. Resolves non-routine problems by applying general policies, practices, procedures and principles. This person will work with the site manager to insure a high level of customer satisfaction.

Welding practice required. Welding expertise in TIG, MIG, stick and filler metals.

ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other tasks may be assigned.

- Assist customers both in person, over the phone and on the computer, with the processing of orders and proposals.
- Follow up on leads, and assist in development of industrial, commercial and residential customer sales.
- Coordinate with manufacturing to determine delivery dates located on customer needs.
- Personally expedite "Rush" & "Hot" orders.
- Provide first line technical support.
- Order entry and invoicing.
- Lgain product line and be able to explain product benefits and features to customers.
- To organize work, problem solve, and multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- Restocks store merchandise as needed. Arranges stock on shelves or racks in sales area and keeps merchandise in order. Marks or tickets merchandise.
- Assists with special sales and promotions.
- Assist in warehouse in shipping & receiving, inventory stocking, cleaning, labeling, inventory cycle counts or other tasks.
- Maintains showroom cleanliness by procedures set forth by management.
- Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed.
- Establish personal relationships with customers and end users.
- Provide managery and team leadership abilities on an occasional basis when site management is absent.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements


EDUCATION and/or practice:

- High School Graduate with diploma and/or prior practice in outbound calling/inside sales, outside sales or marketing desirable.
- Excellent customer service expertise. capability to establish and manage customer relationships
- capability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates a clear and effective speaking manner for the purpose of explaining information to customers and employees.
- capability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- capability to lgain MTG's business/product types/organization/transaction systems
- Excellent Telephone Communications expertise
- Excellent Organizational expertise
- Intermediate level expertise of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook E-mail).
