We are now looking for a senior Safety & Environment professional to lead Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) operations in our new world-class biotechnology facility in Dublin where they will play an integral function in delivering the next chapter of our invention and discovery story.


This is an excellent opportunity for an practiced Safety & Environment professional to play a key function in the planning, development and implementation of all EHS functions in our new facility - MSD Biotech, Dublin. This site has been chosen for MSD?s first ever Large-Scale Mammalian-located Drug Substance Facility. Construction on this exciting new facility will commence immediately and we require a seasoned Safety & Environment professional to provide leadership abilities and technical guidance across all EHS activities.

This exciting opportunity offers the Associate Director ? Safety & Environment the scope to deliver exceptional EHS practices and standards at the heart of MSD?s new biologics manufacturing site. This facility will be a significant supplier of drug substance for one of MSD?s key treatments and will also be critical in the future supply of new biotechnology products to our global network.

Initially, the function of Associate Director ? Safety & Environment will focus on supporting the new-build facility capital. The next stage will involve leading on ensuring all health and safety regulatory requirements on the site are upheld to the highest standard as well as working with the wider senior leadership abilities to build a team of talent to take the facility into the future.

this function requires an enthusiastic, compliance-focused individual with a highly-practiced and well-rounded knowledge of EHS issues, a proven track record in the environmental health and safety sector and a drive for results.

THE function

The Associate Director, Safety & Environment for MSD Biotech Dublin, will be responsible for superviseing all aspects of MSD Biotech?s EHS functions and will report to MSD?s Executive Director for Global Safety and the Environment. He/she will provide leadership abilities and technical guidance to the organisation to guarantee full compliance with legal requirements related to Environmental, Safety and Health as well as MSD's corporate standards, policies, procedures and guidelines related to EHS and industry best practices.

The Associate Director ? Safety & Environment will possess the drive and initiative to seek out information from a compliance perspective, and have the courage and candour to ensure that every undertaking on site is performed with accuracy and efficiency, whilst maintaining best practice and the highest safety and environmental standards on site at all times.

Essential tasks and responsibilities of the function will include;
   » Working with the capital team to plan, develop and implement EHS programmes in order to ensure compliance with local legislation, MSD's standards and industry best practices.
   » Serving as interface with governmental EHS agencies and insurance carriers.
   » Supporting leadership abilities and steering team to create local EHS programmes, through each site operations team or directly, and assisting operational departments in achieving and establishing compliance.
   » Demonstrating leadership abilities and a strong desire to protect employees, our community and the environment in this world-class facility ? leading with a ?safety first? mindset.
   » Preparing the required reports to site, divisional and/or corporate management and regulatory agencies.
   » Managing budgetary and capital needs to support EHS initiatives, projects and programmes.
   » Evaluating all EHS applicable requirements for any new projects and processes (along with other site departments where necessary) as well as changes in the existing processes and installatation.
   » Be responsible for superviseing all environmental programmes to ensure compliance of site EHS permits and licenses.



The Associate Director ? Safety & Environment will possess a technical primary Bachelor degree with a post-grad EHS qualification. Additional qualifications in Business Administration or specific EHS subject matter would also be desirable. He/she will have at least ten years EHS practice in a highly regulated sector, preferably Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas, Energy, or Chemical industries. The Associate Director ? Safety & Environment will be practiced in supporting multiple activities/projects and be familiar with working with EHS regulatory agencies and corporate support functions.

The Associate Director, Safety & Environment will be a self-directed, technically strong individual who can lead in a multi-functionary team environment. The Associate Director ? Safety & Environment will have practice working closely with senior management at a site level, including in the development of leading and lagging metrics, as well as strategic problem-solving. He/she will demonstrate prior accomplishment in collaboration, driving results, ethics and integrity, building team talent, making rapid disciplined decisions, and possessing an capability to focus on customers and patients.
