Dublin, Ireland has been chosen for MSD?s first ever Large-Scale Mammalian-located Drug Substance Facility. Construction on this exciting new facility will commence immediately and this is a unique opportunity for the right person to shape, create, build and grow the Automation capabilities of MSD Biotech, Dublin. The Automation Lead will design and maintain a best-in-class automation strategy, playing a pivotal function in the manufacture of MSD?s biologics-located medicines. A key function to the success of the manufacturing facility and MSD?s business objectives, the Automation Lead will lay the foundations of automation infrastructure for a workplace of the future and supervise the design, construction, qualification and licensure of the facility.

THE function

The Automation Lead will steer the entire development of the facility?s automation capabilities, ensuring the solutions are fit-for-purpose, with the mission and ambition to manufacture breakthrough medicines from Ireland for patients around the world. This facility will be a significant supplier of drug substance for one of MSD?s key treatments and will also be critical in the future supply of new biotechnology products to our global network.

The Automation Lead will manage the design, implementation and operation of all Automation capabilities at MSD Biotech Dublin and will ensure all automation activities are aligned with current and emerging engineering standards. This will include ensuring automation technical integrity, system validation, and maintaining technology as part of an active lifecycle programme.

As an innovative thinker, the Automation Lead will:

a) ensure solutions fulfil automation integrity criteria;
b) enforce safety and compliance across operations;
c) shape and instigate an integrated automation strategy for start-up and overall operations roll-out with the support of the Global Biologics Sterile Operations team to include analytical and product development plus quality and regulatory employees/teams. Qualifications


this function requires a seasoned Automation Lead with proven capabilities in automation design, technical integrity, development of high performance Information technology and Automation strategies, and a proven track-record in delivering results in a world-class supply organisation. The Automation Lead will be comfortable with Pharma operations, and ideally practiced in automating Biologics fermentation. The Automation Lead will champion automation capabilities in both Dublin and across MSD?s Global Operations, delivering a plant for the future on time and designing their own future within MSD.

Demonstrating energy and enthusiasm, the Automation Lead will be a function model for operational excellence, and will contribute to the organisation?s overall capcapability to thrive and grow. To ensure deliverables are met, the Automation Lead will form impactful and trusted relations with their team, and ensure sustained and fruitful collaboration with all significant stakeholders will be crucial.

With a Bachelor?s degree in a significant discipline, the Automation Lead will have broad professional skills in (>7 years? practice) the life sciences, pharma or medical devices sector and ideally in implementation and project management of manufacturing automation/ execution systems, in particular in automating Biologics fermentation. practice working across global teams and negotiating and managing strategic vendors is key, as is the capability to work with all levels of business customers in a highly dynamic environment, demonstrating strong leadership abilities and interpersonal skills. The Automation Lead will also show ambition and drive to develop and advance their career within MSD.
