GENERAL SUMMARY
The Community Relations/Advocacy Coordinator participates in the planning and implementation of the chapter's public policy efforts. The position also assists with messaging and communications strategies, including marketing, public relations and social media related to the Aloha Chapter. She/he must be able to recruit, manage, and partner directly with volunteers to meet strategic planning goals.

This position is located in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii and reports to the Director of Programs and Public Policy. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Conduct outreach to legislators, legislative staff, and representatives of government at the local, state, and federal levels to promote an knowledge of and support for policies, programs, and services to meet the needs of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, their families, and their caregivers
• Serve as liaison to the Chapter's Public Policy Work Group in developing and executing appropriate strategies and tactics to achieve the Association's advocacy and public policy goals
• Engage and train Chapter staff and volunteers in advocacy activities
• Build and support a Chapter-wide, grassroots network of trained volunteer advocates to carry out the Association's advocacy goals
• Recruit and support a cadre of volunteer Ambassadors, each to serve as the lead Alzheimer's advocate to a member of Hawaii delegation
• Work with Ambassadors to establish ACT
• Activate the Chapter's advocacy email network to ensure timely and effective response to policy developments when action is required, such as attending hearings, initiating calls, emails, letters, and/or social media outreach to legislators and media
• Manage the Alzheimer's Advocacy Reporting and Trends (?AART?) database of public policy advocates, provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on advocacy recruitment as well as advocate and staff contacts with state and federal legislators
• Coordinate Chapter contacts with media, including press releases and letters to the editor
• Coordinate Chapter public policy special events
• Participate in Chapter community outreach, fund development, and program and service delivery activities

Job Requirements


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Minimum of at least 3 years of practice in advocacy, grassroots organizing or public policy.
• Able to advocate and represent the Alzheimer's community in a variety of settings
• Excellent customer service expertise when working with internal and external clients
• Deadline and detail oriented with strong organizational expertise
• practice and comfort navigating and using social media tools
• availability and capability to quickly lgain new software/technology
• capability and availability to travel within the Chapter on a limited basis
• capability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
• Basic knowledge of and comfort with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
• knowledge email distribution tools such as Convio preferred
• knowledge of search engine optimization and search engine marketing preferred
• Able to advocate and represent the Alzheimer's community in a variety of settings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Must possess a reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of valid insurance.
