Job Description

General Accountcapability:
The primary purpose of this position is to execute microbiology analyses according to method specification and client requirements. Work Schedule: SECOND SHIFT

ALS Environmental
Specific The main responsibilities are:

   » Analyze wastewater and sludge/solid samples for microbiological and wet chemistry parameters
   » Perform all quality control requirements connected with the methods and maintain appropriate records
   » Prioritize work by creating schedules to complete everyday assignments
   » Interpret and author SOPs, perform reagent formulation, record bench level observations, and keep records in bound and electronic notebooks
   » Perform other tasks as assigned and directed
   » Capable of performing tasks and responsibilities
   » Meets production levels on a everyday and weekly basis in order to meet client deadlines.
   » Able to work independently with little supervision
   » Able to work in a team with co-workers
   » Able to lgain new concepts quickly
   » Follows safety and security procedures regarding materials and equipment.
   » Follows manager directions
   » Attendance and punctuality - arrives and leaves on time each day and misses little work
   » Produces quality, error free work
   » Attitude and cooperation - has an upbeat and positive attitude, offers ideas and solutions to correct problem areas
   » Follows procedures as outlined
   » Seeks assistance when needed before a situation gets ?out of hand?
   » Adaptable and able to change an approach or method quickly to fit different situations
   » Communicates information well to co-workers / team members to include all those involved in the decision-making process.
   » Other tasks as assigned
Required Knowledge, expertise & Abilities:

   » Demonstrated capability to prioritize work schedules and be self-directed in completing everyday assignments as well as mid-range and long term department objectives related to training and quality assurance.
   » Previous positions required being multi-tasked, organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem solving capabilities; will have good time management capabilities.
   » Have a demonstrated capability to communicate well in English, both verbal and written.
   » Desire to work in a laboratory science setting
   » Proven capability to lgain new concepts quickly
   » practice in document control, the use of SOP's, reagent formulation, and bench level observation and recordkeeping in bound and electronic notebooks.
   » An knowledge of basic quality assurance parameters specifically measure of precision and accuracy is preferred.
   » practice in the analysis of environmental samples for microbiological and wet chemistry parameters using EPA methodologies.

Required Appropriate qualifications:

   » High school graduate plus college courses of a scientific nature.
   » Additional education or practice working in a laboratory setting preferred.

Physical Demands:

   » Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients.
   » Able to sit, and /or stand for 100% of an 8 hour day.
   » Able to lift up to 50 lbs
   » Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer and other equipment.
   » Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
   » Must be able to distinguish differences in color and shade.
   » Must be able to execute repetitive motion actions.
   » Must be able to withstand cold temperatures for at least 1 hour.
