Job Description

This position plans and directs all aspects of the engineering unit’s activities. Ensures projects and deliverables are in conformance with engineering’s established procedures and objectives. Responsible for supervision and organizational development, including task prioritization and performance reviews of electronic engineers, firmware engineers and other staff.  Provides mentoring to less practiced engineers, and leads efforts to define and update product development processes related to electronic product development. Performs electronic development functions for selected programs as needed to support programs.  Represents electronics design in engineering staff meetings as well as on an as needed basis for program reviews and division-wide initiatives.
Job The main responsibilities are:
   » Track and manage electronic design tasks, and flows communications from engineering staff meetings
   » Develop, implement, maintain and communicate the departmental plan in line with strategic initiatives
   » Perform administrative functions such as reviewing & writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules
   » Determine resource requirements and make decision on additions and reductions
   » Participate regularly as either a team member or a team leader on cross functional team projects,   
   » Responsible for ensuring proper integration of engineering activities with respect to scope of project, definitions of system and product, strategies and tactics, risk evaluation, schedule, resource  requirements, budget and returns
   » Recruit, train and mentor staff
   » Evaluate work, and supervise staff development and advancement
   » Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department or unit
   » Train and ensure staff follows all pertinent procedures
   » Develop and implement key process and process improvement for the greater good of the company
   » Coordinate activities and tasks within the team and within organizations including vendors, outside the team
   » Research applications, technologies and design alternatives for products from preliminary market requirements that are often lacking details
   » Directly manage 1-12 employees
   » Perform engineering design work as required, and commensurate with practice
   » Direct projects relating to product development and quality refinement as required
   » May be called upon to participate in cross functional activities outside of normal scope of job responsibilities
   » Assist management in implementing long range strategic plans
   » Ensure the highest quality engineering development, integration to manufacturing and product release
   » Identify resources, financial and human, needed to meet departmental objectives
   » Train, mentor, and facilitate staff assuring all have opportunity for personal development and advancement

Job Requirements

Education & practice:
   » BS Electrical or Electronic Engineering
   » 10 yearsof electronic engineering practice
   » 2 yearsof practice managing people OR
   » 5 yearsof practice leading multi-functional teams

Skills & Abilities:
   » Verbal and written communication skills with the capability to make necessary status reports
   » Organizational and planning skills
   » Strong leadership abilities skills
   » Strong problem solving skills
   » Strong expertise of patent processes, application and interpretation
   » capability to use a wide application of engineering principles, theories and concepts in the field
   » A working expertise of other related disciplines in providing imaginative, thorough and practicable solutions to a wide variety of problems

   » 10% of travel
