BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND - SOUTHERN REGION
The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland - Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders all over the Cork and Kerry area.

Applications are invited for the following:-

SENIOR GRADE PSYCHOLOGIST -Ref: 53/2017
Permanent Full Time(37 hours per week)
Regional Autism Spectrum Disorder Team,
Job location: Cork

Details of the Service

The Regional Autism Spectrum Disorders Team was founded by the Brothers of Charity (Southern Services) in 2000. The team consists of a coordinator, Senior Psychologist, Senior Social Worker, Senior Occupational therapist and Senior Speech & Language Therapist. This is a specialist service providing:
   » Diagnostic Assessments to children upto 18 years of age with complex presentations in Cork & Kerry. To date these children have included those with co-morbid mental health and/or sensory disabilities disorders; those with early childhood trauma; children in care; children who are a danger to themselves or others; and those where school or family placement is in jeopardy.
   » Independent Second Opinion diagnostic assessment because of evidence of continued uncertainty about the appropriate diagnosis.
   » Short term intervention and consultancy support to Network Discapability Teams in the care of children whose needs are complex.
   » Inservice training and consultancy to staff in Primary Care and Discapability teams in relation to autism. The training includes licensed certified training from the National Autistic Society for the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders (DISCO).
   » Research and promotion of best practice models.

Progressing Disabilities
The HSE is committed to the roll out of the Progressing Disabilities nationally and this will have implications for practice locally. When Progressing Disabilities is implemented in Cork, existing services will change from being discapability specific to generic discapability services. The Regional ASD Team will be a specialist service though not exclusively for children with ASD under the proposed Progressing Discapability model.

Purpose of the Post

To provide specialist psychological services as a multidisciplinary team member of the Regional ASD team.

Professional Qualifications and practice etc.
1. The Candidates must
   » Have a recognised university degree or diploma (QQI Level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject AND a recognised professional post-graduate professional qualification in clinical, counselling or educational psychology OR an equivalent non-Irish qualification validated by the Department of Health. AND
   » Have at least five years satisfactory post-graduate practice in the area of professional psychology, no more than three years of which was spent in gaining the post-graduate professional qualification and no less than two years full-time spent in post qualification practice as a professional psychologist. Years in excess of the permitted three years for completion of the post-graduate training or time not worked will not be taken into consideration when assessing the five years' practice requirement AND
   » candidates with a clinical or counselling psychology qualification must demonstrate that they have acquired in appropriate health settings, for the areas for which they wish to apply - Discapability (Child and Adult), Child Psychology, Adult Psychology either at least 60 days or equivalent supervised clinical placements as part of the professional qualification or at least 60 days or equivalent post qualification supervised work practice as a psychologist. OR
   » candidates with an educational psychology qualification must demonstrate that they have acquired in appropriate health settings for the areas for which they wish to apply - Child Discapability and Child Psychology; either at least 60 days or equivalent supervised clinical placements as part of the professional qualification or at least 60 days or equivalent post qualification supervised work practice as a psychologistThe above eligibility criteria apply without prejudice to candidates employed in a post of Basic Grade Psychologist or above in the Irish public health service at October 2002.
Note: Combinations of supervised clinical placement practice as part of the qualification and post qualification supervised work practice within a single care group area to give a total of 60 days are not acceptable

5. Must possess the requisite expertise and capability (including a high standard of suitcapability and capability) for the proper discharge of the tasks of the office.

2. Must have practice in diagnostic and intervention services with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder
3 Must have practice of working with children with mental health difficulties
4. Must have a high degree of Information technology literacy
5. Must have a full driving license and means of transport which qualifies you to drive on Irish roads.

Age
   » Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
